History: [History]

Personality:
When we meet Claire, it's already been five years into the T-virus epidemic: the catastrophy that devoured the world, killing most life and turning the dead into zombies and other horrific monsters. She, along with Carlos Olivera, lead a convoy of survivors, forever staying on the move to keep everyone alive.

By this point, Claire Redfield is a hardened survivor. She is a pragmatic, no-nonsense leader who rarely seems to genuinely smile, and when she does, it's short-lived. As the leader of a convoy of around thirty people, including children, she has a lot of lives in her hands, counting on her to keep them safe. It's a burden and responsibility that she feels in full force everyday, pushing her to always put herself last. She never complains or shows weakness to her convoy, because the moment she does, it's only a matter of time before everyone else begins questioning themselves, losing hope, and giving up. Claire refuses to let that happen. She cares deeply for her convoy and anyone else to earn her trust, and wants to see them live free of the fear of being attacked in your sleep and eaten alive. Despite the hardships that come with it, she is never one to give up on others and will fight tooth and nail for them. This is an instinct that seems ingrained in her even when she has no memories to fall back on. She cares a lot about what happens to others, even if she doesn't outwardly show it in a way that's obvious.

That said, her trust is incredibly hard to earn. In a world where screwing others over for supplies or even for sick pleasure has become an unfortunate normalcy, Claire has learned to keep everyone at arm's length until they've proved themselves. Even after Alice saves Claire and her convoy's lives from a massive horde of t-virus infected crows, she still expresses wariness.

Don't get me wrong. We are grateful. They're all talking about what you did, and they're scared.

Without her memories, she becomes doubly wary of others, proving that it is yet another instinct that is hardwired into her. She is quick to attack if she feels threatened, as seen when she comes to after Alice removes the scarab device and when Chris tries to touch her face. And even with memories, she remains very much an "act first, ask later" type if she has any reason to believe she or someone she cares about is in danger. This, combined with her no-nonsense attitude, makes her someone who doesn't take bullshit in any form and who will guaranteed do something about it.

Of course, with all of this comes a price. The tough, no-nonsense, leader that everyone looks to for confidence and a plan is all she gets to be. There are glimpses of a sarcastic sense of humor that peek out around her seriousness, such as teasing Carlos for smoking too much or poking fun at one of her convoy members' knack for telling what's in a sealed can just by shaking it, but they're brief. They're always squashed under a serious face at the reminder of their dire circumstances. All of the grief, sadness, and frustration she feels is bottled up and hidden away from everyone, because she doesn't have the liberty of dealing with those emotions. This much is evident when it all culminates to more than she can take when the convoy stops for fuel in Las Vegas, only to find super-powered zombies. She starts cracking with each friend and ally that's killed until she finally snaps and lets loose an utterly infuriated and grief-stricken scream in the middle of the chaos.

It comes as no surprise that Claire blames herself heavily for the deaths of her friends and her convoy. As their leader, she feels it's her duty to protect all of them. She might even tell someone else that such an expectation is unrealistic and unfair if she were on the outside looking in, but from herself, she expects more. These people are all depending on her, and it racks her with guilt when she lets them down. It could come down to a decision she could have made differently, or that maybe she just didn't get there fast enough to help. There's a part of her that will always feel like she's not doing a good enough job and that people will always end up dying around her.

Alice: ❝ People have a habit of dying around me. ❞ / Claire: ❝ Not just you. ❞

Despite all of the things that one might expect to make Claire cold, however, she still finds room to be warm and encouraging when she knows it's needed. She holds and comforts K-Mart when they're saying their good-byes to Carlos, and when Kim is second-guessing himself about whether or not he can make it through the tunnels in the prison, Claire kindly assures him that he can do it. She knows that everyone has doubts and moments where they break down, and she also knows that harshly pushing them forward is not the usually way to help them. Her leadership doesn't only stem from toughness and resilience, but also from being considerate and kind. She spends a lot of time thinking about the well-being of others, trying to motivate them and give them comfort when they need it most.

All in all, Claire Redfield is someone you'd want at your back in a fight. Especially if that fight happens to be in the middle of a zombie apocalypse.

Skills | Powers:
Claire, for the most part, is your average human, your average survivor. She has no special powers, no immunity to the virus that ravaged her world, but what she does have has kept her alive for years.

Firearms skills; Although potentially trained in firearms by her older brother, it's highly probable most of Claire's skills are self-taught, groomed to keep herself and others alive in an apocalyptic nightmare. She's a sharp aim, rarely missing her target, and has skill with at least a handgun and a shotgun.

Hand-to-hand combat; Her fighting abilities are skillful and acrobatic, as she is able to backflip over the Axeman, kick high enough to nearly get Wesker in the face, and twist Chris into a vulnerable position (albeit, he was unprepared), but also rugged and leaning more on the brawler end of the spectrum. She's not concerned with elegance or mastery, just staying alive. As with firearms, she had no formal training, and is able to be taken down and outmaneuvered by Wesker many times, but she's just good enough to hold her own and keep herself alive.

First Person Sample:
[A young woman with auburn hair appears on the feed, her eyes hard and full of cautious tension. Her lips pull back into a thin line for a moment as she looks down, then back up.]

Look. I’m sorry about the way I acted, to those of you that were just trying to help me the other day. [There’s another pause as she looks pointedly away at the tablet. Even without her memories, she’s a strong-willed woman who would rather throw herself under a bus than show any vulnerability, any weakness. But she doesn't have a choice. She’ll die here if she doesn't speak up and ask for help. She still doesn't look at the tablet when she speaks again.] I fought because it’s the only thing I’m sure of, the only knowledge I can depend on to keep me alive. [A deep inhale; it takes a moment to muster up the will to open up, even a little.] ...I don’t know who I am. I don’t... have any memories. Not my past, not even my name... All I remember is a woman who called herself Alice and being in a field full of airplanes.

[It’s not much, and she’s not expecting answers, but if anyone happens to know something, anything... Well. Maybe it’ll be worth it. She looks at the tablet again, trying her damnedest to be expressionless.]

All I ask is that you fix me up with a rundown of this place and some weapons. I’ll be fine after that.

[She sounds so sure, but inside, she doesn’t know what to do. There's a flicker of uncertainty in her eyes, but she's quick to turn the tablet off when she's done.]

Third Person Sample:
Her memories were slowly coming back, but the more glimpses she saw, the more Claire became unsure whether or not she even wanted them back. Mostly, it was just unhappiness, death, blood, rotting corpses... Occasionally, there'd be a flash of something. A smiling face, people close to her, she guessed. It didn't even out the bad, though. There was so much of the bad that it made her feel sick to her stomach at times, but she pretended to be fine, even when a sharp shock of memories sent her careening into a stall at the market.

Understandably, the clerk at the stall seemed perturbed that she had knocked over some of his wares, but she was quick to get up and apologize, helping him put everything back where it belonged. Thankfully, nothing was damaged. She got lucky. She didn't have any money to pay for goods, let alone damaged ones.

Much of her time since she had arrived had been spent wandering the Underworld aimlessly, hoping that something might finally start to make sense. No dice. If anything, she ended up even more confused and frustrated. Dimension hopping? Goddesses? Magic? These people had been largely nice to her and all, but... Come on. This was all one big fucking headache, and either these people were all delusional or she was having one very vivid dream. Those are the only possibilities she could wrap her head around right now.

One thing at a time...

She'd figure it all out, she just had to take everything one step at a time.

Marks: Tally marks along her right arm, one for each member of her convoy that died. As their leader, she feels responsible and intensely guilty about their deaths.
